A New Beginning

With lessons learned and hurt of what was lost long behind me, it's time for a new beginning. A brand new start. Like a cupcake rising from the ashes of a burnt cake, I will rise again! Oooh...dramatic, right? That was fun!

Welcome everyone to the online home of the new bakery, Refined Sugar Cakes and Sweets. For those of you who knew me from The Bake Shoppe, it's good to see you again. For those new to me, I can't wait to get to know you. Let me tell you about myself.

My name is Julie and I have been baking as long as I remember. I love making food that make people swoon. I live here in Kitchener, with my husband and 2 kids. All of them make excellent test subject for new recipes, and not once have I ever heard them complain about me making another cake. I've been married for 10 years, but I still have a Pinterest board full of wedding cakes. Some people pin nail art or makeup tutorials, I pin cake dreams.

I used to own a bakery in Kitchener and we did everything, and we did it all from scratch. Breads, pies, cake, cookies, bars, muffins....the list was pretty endless. We focused on nut-free baking, but we did our best to accommodate every allergy we could. We ran birthday parties in the shoppe and taught cupcake decorating classes. In other words, we got spread pretty thin.

This time we're doing this a little differently. I'm going to be focusing on custom cakes/cupcakes and wholesale. We'll only have a small selection of items that you'll be able to pop in and pick up, but that will give me more time to make sure that those custom orders are extra special. We also hope to partner with a few local stores and restaurants so that you'll never be wondering where you can get your next Refined Sugar fix.

There's a few other top secret details that I'll fill you all in on, as soon as I can. We'll have location and timeline information available really soon.
